From My Catholic Gifts: Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us!

These images are so beautiful that I thought I would pass them on for you to view!

Today, September 15th, is the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. I just wanted to take a few minutes to share with you a little bit about this beautiful image entitled “La Pieta”.

This stunning piece of art was painted in 1876 by William Adolphe Bouguereau. It depicts the great sorrow and anguish that Our Blessed Mother experienced when her Son was crucified.

Bouguereau was able to capture this pure, raw emotion of Mary through her facial expressions, but particularly through her eyes. They depict the utter grief of the loss of her son, but also the strength that comes from completely submitting everything to the will of God.

By meditating upon the anguish of the Blessed Mother, we can realize that we too should feel an utter loss and sense of grief everytime we think about the crucifixion of Our Lord.

Here are some other images that we have featuring Our Lady of Sorrows:

God bless you and your family,
