With respect to all this, Cardinal Sarah appears to have been completely sidelined. Repeatedly humiliated in public, he finds himself presiding over offices and men that are pulling against him.

But the question at stake is much more substantial than it appears. In a season, in fact, in which the magisterium is unsure or absent, it is precisely the liturgical texts that pass on in full the grand tradition of the Church. And therefore it is on fidelity to these texts that a “resistance” can be attested.
