ROME, June 21, 2016 – During a press conference a few days ago at the Vatican, Cardinal Gerhard L. Müller, prefect of the congregation for the doctrine of the faith, confirmed that a team of specialists is being formed to study once again the question of women deacons, as announced by Pope Francis last May 13, during an audience with superiors general of women’s religious congregations.
But Müller also emphasized that an extensive study of the question of the diaconate was already organized a number of years ago by the international theological commission that collaborates with the congregation for the doctrine of the faith, headed at the time by Joseph Ratzinger.
